“Mother, not an Artist. Artist, not a Mother”, takes an approach that unveils the complex decisions and challenges women face when they have to reconcile their role as mothers with their desire for self-fulfillment. It addresses the inequalities, structural barriers, stereotypes, and prejudices that women encounter in this context, highlighting the multifaceted and sometimes contradictory demands of contemporary life.

Additionally, it explores the emotional experiences that can arise from the retraditionalization of gender relations.

The focus is on women who, after becoming mothers, find themselves drawn into a process

of retraditionalization and experience frustrations, conflicts, disappointments, and a sense of oppression regarding their self-fulfillment.

The persistence of the statement “Mother, not an Artist. Artist, not a Mother” symbolizes this conflict. By using “Artist” as a symbolic representation of all aspirations, the video installation aims at highlighting the universal experience of women who face similarly unequal opportunities for self-fulfillment.

The freely composed musical accompaniment by the child reflects the child’s sense of belonging and emotional involvement, shaped by the impact of the conflict.

“Mother, not an Artist. Artist, not a Mother” (Nënë, jo Artiste. Artiste, jo Nënë), përvijon një qasje shpaluese ndaj vendimeve dhe sfidave komplekse me të cilat ballafaqohen gratë kur u duhet të pajtojnë rolin e tyre si nëna me dëshirën për t’u ndjerë të përmbushura.

Vepra trajton pabarazitë, pengesat strukturore, stereotipat dhe paragjykimet që gratë hasin në këtë kontekst, duke nxjerrë në pah kërkesat e shumanshme dhe ndonjëherë kontradiktore të jetës bashkëkohore.

Gjithashtu, ajo eksploron përjetimet emocionale që mund të lindin nga ritradicionalizimi i marrëdhënieve gjinore. Fokusi bie mbi gratë që, pasi bëhen nëna, e gjejnë veten pjesë të një procesi ritradicionalizimi dhe përjetojnë frustrimet, konfliktet, zhgënjimet dhe një ndjesi shtypjeje ndaj nevojës së tyre për t’u përmbushur.

Kryeneqësia e shprehjes “Nënë, jo Artiste. Artiste, jo Nënë” e simbolizon këtë konflikt. Duke e përdorur figurën e “Artistit” si një mishërim simbolik të të gjitha aspiratave, video-instalacioni synon të nxjerrë në pah përvojën universale të grave që ngjashëm përballen me mundësi të pabarabarta për vetëpërmbushje.

Shoqërimi muzikor, i kompozuar lirshëm nga fëmija, reflekton ndjesinë e përkatësisë dhe përfshirjes emocionale të tij, të formësuar nga ndikimi i këtij konflikti.
